AMALYA is a couture studio of exactly that kind, with one deliberate commitment: the gowns are modest from the first sketch, not adapted afterward. The studio was established in Jerusalem in 2007 by the designer Amalya Cohen.
Bridal Couture, Made in Israel
What the words promise, this workroom keeps: a gown built around one body. The pattern is drawn for it, the beadwork is set stone by stone, and the fitting schedule assumes a dress is not finished until it sits exactly right.
Nothing is taken from a rack: there is a sketch, a pattern, and a sequence of fittings at the studio; most brides have three to four before the wedding day. Everything happens from the first sketch to the final fitting at one studio in Jerusalem: the same hands, the same materials, the same responsibility.
Modest from the First Sketch
At this studio, modesty is not an adjustment made at the end of the process; it is the first line of the sketch. The gown is designed for full coverage from the beginning, so the coverage and the design are one decision rather than a compromise between two.
In practice, the line is consistent:
- •A sleeve that ends at the wrist.
- •A neckline that closes at the collarbone.
- •A fabric that is opaque everywhere, including under flash.
Sewn and Beaded by Hand
The numbers explain the pace. A densely beaded bodice can take two to four hundred hours of handwork; every Swarovski stone and glass bead is set by hand, one by one.
The laces are commissioned from European mills in limited runs, and the base fabrics come from trusted houses in France and Italy. Cutting, sewing, embroidery, and beading all happen at the Jerusalem studio, under one roof.
Ordering from Abroad
Brides outside Israel can begin with a virtual appointment, and the fitting schedule is planned so the number of trips is kept down. Most brides in Israel close their order about three months before the wedding; for brides abroad we recommend at least four.
